Murray Region Legal Assistance Forum (LAF)

The aim of the Murray Mallee Legal Assistance Forum ("MMLAF")

The aim of MMLAF is to bring to life VLAF principals in the Murray Mallee Region.

The MMLAF has identified two areas of focus including: Elder issues and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds ("CALD"). While the MMLAF has decided to focus on these two key areas, the forum is flexible and can work toward addressing other community needs that are identified.

News

In collaboration with the Consumer Action Law Centre ("CALC") MMLAF is pleased to announce that CALC will be travelling to Mildura to provide training in relation the National Consumer Credit Protection Act 2009 and the National Credit Code, on Friday 26th of November 2010.

The training aims to provide lawyers, consumer support workers, financial counsellors, social workers, mental health workers and others with a better understanding of the new National Credit Laws. Invariably, a large proportion of the clients that these service providers come into contact with, are elderly people and people from CALD backgrounds - this training therefore aims to satisfy the two identified focus groups of the MMLAF.
