The VLAF forum "Exploring legal services delivery options" was held on the 31 May 2010 at the Lionel Murphy Centre. The forum was very well attended . Representatives from both legal and non-legal sector participated in the forum. It was very encouraging to see VLA staff from the different areas of work attend the forum.
Our keynote speaker Mary Anne Noone's presentation "It’s hard opening up to strangers" Challenges of Providing Integrated Legal Services was very well received. The presentation highlighted the different service delivery options, the importance of integrated service delivery models, the challenges of setting up the services and also illustrated the strengths. The research paper will be made available to all participants, when the research recommendations are finalised and the paper is finalised.
The VLA Directors Kristen Hilton, Saul Holt and Judy Small presented the "One practice model" and it was interesting to note how VLA’s approach reflected the principles of integrated service delivery approach, highlighted in Mary Anne’s presentation. The presentation highlighted the proactive strategies VLA is taking to provide a holistic service delivery.
The speakers from the community legal sector, Peter Noble, James Farrell and Robin Inglis presented examples of unique innovative projects to illustrate collaboration, innovation with non-legal sector and the strategy behind the approaches taken.
Overall the forum provided a great insight to all the work undertaken by the sector and the importance of working together to provide collaborative service delivery responses. It was clear the legal sector work closely influences the prevention and intervention strategies developed by the health or housing sector and the importance of working in collaboration.
