Access to Justice - Challenges of developing a holistic legal service for people with a disability.

VLA in collaboration with VLAF would like to invite you to a forum to discuss - Access to Justice - Challenges of developing a holistic legal service for people with a disability.

We have invited speakers from disability sector, CLCs and VLA.

This is an important opportunity to reflect on current legal services, collaborate with disability advocates and CLCs to respond and develop legal services to meet the legal needs for clients with a disability.

Its estimated that up to one third of VLA clients in criminal, family and civil mattes have a disability - many have an intellectual / cognitive disability or a mental illness, others have physical or sensory impairments. I am sure the stats in the CLC sector too will reflect the same data.

Involves a lot of group work, sharing ideas, mapping actions and developing some forward plan.

When: 9.00 am - 4.00pm, 10 December 2009
Where: Lionel Murphy Centre, 360 Queen Street, Melbourne

Limited to only 50 participants.

RSVP to Denise Lambrou - denisel@vla.vic.gov.au by 8 December. Please let her know if you have any special requirements including alternative formats for written materials, an interpreter, attendant carer or communication support worker or catering needs.
